Hello, I'm Kimberly King and welcome to the mother's market radio show, a show dedicated to the Truth, Beauty and Goodness of the human condition. On today's show, true beauty is on the inside, but feeling great and looking younger is an unbeatable combination, so why not listen today and learn how you can slow the aging process, plus later, we'll tell you what's going on around town and what's new at mother's market, but first of joining us today is nutritional consultant and certified natural health professional, Valerie call salary appears in front of thousands of people each year and speaks on a variety of topics as well as giving many seminars at mother's market, she set a wealth of health and nutrition knowledge and we wanna get right to her, so welcome back, Valerie, how are you?
Thank you, Kimberly. It's always such a pleasure to be on the show with you.
Well, thank you. And before we get to today's topic, please fill our audience on your background in nutrition... Well, I can't believe it's been 19 years now that I've been studying nutrition, and it's been such a wonderful thing for my own health, I've been able to make great strides forward there, and I love to share everything that I've learned with people over the years and pass that information along, I find everybody is just so hungry for this type of knowledge, I do seminar is very regularly at mother's market, and I love to see all my friends out there, Well, you are a wealth of health and nutritional information, as we said, and we really appreciate having you on the show today.
Today we are talking about ways that we can protect our skin and improve the appearance of wrinkles, and you know what I know that we were just talking a little bit off the year about the Anti-aging process, and it's been amazing, so many things that we put into our mouth and what we put on our skin and the ins and outs, so let's get right to the topic here, let's talk a little bit about... What is the first thing that we can talk a little bit about? Ways that we can maintain a youthful appearance, well, you know, there are a lot of things that can either speed up or slow down our internal aging clock, we all know people who look either much older than they really are, or much younger than they really are, we wanna aim for the younger, the is really what we're looking at here, and there's food that plays a part, some good and some bad, supplements can be really supportive for anti-aging, and there are some topical creams that can be helpful as well.
Well, that's very exciting, and of course, we all wanna look younger and you know what, of course, just eating the right thing, we all wanna just pop a pill or something, and we also wanna just do the same thing with anti-aging, what are the potential problems in the food supply that accelerate the aging process...
Well, you're so right, you supplements are great, but they work best when late on a foundation of good food and the foods to avoid, there's a lot of things that I... Processed food supply that are dragging our health down and aging our skin prematurely, things like sugar in all of its forms, high fructose, corn syrup, sugar, even things that try to make themselves sound healthier, like raw sugar. Still not so good for our bodies. A better alternative for that would be stevia, which we'll talk about here in a moment, the hydrogenated oils, when man takes oils and adds hydrogen to them, whether it's totally hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated, it builds a very unhealthy oil that we then incorporate into the cells within our bodies and into our brain and into our skin, and into our eyes, and ironed oils and sugar, I think are some of the big foundations of disease, most diseases in this country are stemming from our process food supply.
So hydrogenated oils is another one I really wanna keep people away from another food that can be very problematic for us, soda pop in all of its forms, one of my nutrition books called it disease in a can, so stay away from that stuff. And artificial chemicals, if you can't pronounce it, don't eat it, it's a great role of them.
That's a really good point, and I love... We did talk about that earlier disease and I can... That's how it should be marketed, and maybe we'll all stay away from them to your children that... Exactly.
Are there supportive foods that can slow down the aging process?
Absolutely, a lot of the good oils are tremendously beneficial for our skin, and some of these may be a surprise for our listeners, because in the last two years, I'm reading in our natural health journals that some of those oils, they told us We're going to be healthier like margarine, and even corn oil and canola oil are not healthier at all, frankly, we were better off with lard, saturated fats are building very healthy cell membranes in the body, and there's never been any proof that saturated fat is linked to cholesterol and heart disease, so we've been mis-educated over and over again, and the good news is we're in kind of this golden age of nutritional science where they're really able to learn a lot more, there's a lot more studies, a lot more evidence-based information now about nutrition. So the oils that I use in my kitchen that are really supportive for your skin, extra virgin olive oil, of course, we all know that one, but don't cook it, it gets damaged easily, it turns into a trans-fat, easily don't heat your olive oil really.
You can put it on your salon after you cook it, but don't cook, don't bake with that, don't try with it because it turns into a trans-fat easily.
The ones I use for baking and frying are organic extra virgin coconut oil and organic butter, here's a good piece of news butter is great for us, and then they get organic and that make it rents.
Those are really stable and because they're so stable, they build stable cell membranes throughout the body, so that's probably some new information for many of our listeners today, but those good oils can be very supportive.
We need enough protein to break down into the amino acids that we need as building blocks, amino acids are building blocks for our skin, our tendons or ligaments, Our muscles or bones are neuro-transmitters for the brain, our hormones, our enzymes... Everything is based on these.
So for people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, you just need to make sure that you're getting an adequate supply of plant protein, and I would say a minimum amount of protein at every meal that people should get is about the equivalent of an organic egg, but some people need more than that. A great well of thumb when it comes to diet is pay attention to how you feel, there is no one diet that's appropriate for every person, so pay attention to how you feel when you eat certain things, and if it's making you thrive and feel great, boom, you're on the right track, if it's making you drag down low energy, you're not feeling good, you're not looking good, time to make some experimental changes and see if you could improve that, and the one thing that every nutritional person agrees on, vegetables are outstanding for us to eat lots of organic vegetables, that's gonna be an excellent support towards...
I wanted to just quickly go back to the protein with amino acids, how is the best way to take those in our thither are amino acid supplements, and if you're a vegetarian vegan, there are a lot of good protein powders that are now vegan source like P protein and hemp protein and rice protein, so you can get things like that for the vegan vegetarian, I tend to eat organic eggs and fish from the ocean, I would prefer them not to be caught near Japan if possible at this point.
Not all grocery stores know where their fish comes from, but if you ask at a good health food store like Mother's market, they usually can tell you where it comes from, so those are some things that I like to eat more often, if I'm gonna eat turkey or chicken, I wanna make sure I'm getting it from a health food store where it's not loaded with hormones and preservatives and nitrates and things like that, and if I eat beef, I want it to be grass-fed beef that has also been organically fed, and then you get a much healthier beef that we do out of the regular stuff, so I just wanna make sure that whatever protein I'm choosing is coming from a good source, and I eat and it's important to eat protein with every meal, whether that's a plant protein or a protein that's an animal source. And again, it goes without saying that you are what you eat, and that even goes with your skin... Yes, absolutely. Skin is a really interesting reflection of what's going on inside of our bodies, so we're gonna do another show in the future about skin problems, so I'll go over that as well, but today we're gonna talk about the anti-agent, but even that really gets impacted by the kind of foods that we're eating.
A lot of great information here. So yeah, we've talked a little bit about was the slowing it down with the aging process and that hydrate, the hydro... How do you say that? I attained, but the good, the bad and the ugly with that, a coconut oil at the organic extra virgin olive loyalty that, that plus.
And then the proteins and the veggies and the berries are so good for our skin to... Yes, so we're gonna come back in just a moment, thanks to Valerie with this great information, but right now we need to take a quick break, but more on how we can get better skin with what we're eating, what we're putting in our body as well.
See with that one.

And now, back to our show with nutritional consultant, Valerie Hall, and we're talking about how we can turn back the clock on our aging skin. Valerie, I'm sure you've had some supplements to recommend to us, and of course, I'm gonna be all over those supplements.
What do you think are the most important? And what do they do?
Well, number one, I'm going to put as high Alaric acid, there's an excellent one at mother's market by doctor's best vitamins called Best hyaluronic acid.
Okay, first of all, how do you spell like...
Oh, A-L-U-R-O-N. I see, got hyaluronic. And this is something that we have a lot of when we're younger, and it declines as we get older, how rude is... I get stand it was then through that, it's like, our height doesn't like everything I do, and so we can replace it with this supplement, now, this is not a vegetarian supplement, it is made from chicken cartilage, but it contains type I collagen, which is cartilage, so it's an excellent cartilage building block in the body, it also has some contrite, which helps to pull the water into the cartilage, and it has this wonderful high Alaric acid, Hylan case is very rich in our skin, our joints and our eyes, so for our skin, it pulls water into the skin and plump up wrinkles, it absorbs about 3000 times its own weight in water, but it doesn't cause water retention, which is a common question I get, so drink a big glass of water with it... The usual amount is 2 in the morning, but if you wanted to take more in the afternoon, you could certainly take two more then at two in the morning with a big glass of water every day, and this really helps to turn the clock back. I could see a difference right away when I started taking it, and later on, we're gonna talk about some topical creams and you can also get high larnaca in topical creams, they work synergistically very well together. For the joints, hyaluronic helps the synovial fluid. Our joints float in, it gives the joints cushion and glide, it's what is the smooth fluid or joins glados puts almost like a little shock absorber in there for joint comfort, lack of hyaluronic acid is often a missing link for better joint comfort, so... I love all the beautiful side benefits of this, there's also a lot of hyaluronic in the eyes, so for dry eyes and for contact lens wearers, people often get very nice results when it comes to hyaluronic acid in the eyes, she got all kinds of benefits, but it's the top thing that really can turn back the clock as far as a supplement goes, very inexpensive, I believe mother sells it for less than 15 for a month supply, so it's just a fantastic value and gonna get the skin benefits, the joint benefits, the eye benefits a lot of us really need that, so that's basically a hydrate, the next group of say, and it's also a college and builder by the way, because it helps to build... Even though it contains type 2 College and it helps us to build types 1, 2 and 3, and one and three are the main ones in skin, which brings me to my next group of nutrients, which are basic college and building block materials.
So you can buy a product that is a college in one and three combination, and doctor's best makes a great one at mother's nose has another great one at mothers.
So one and three are the types of collagen in our skin, in our veins and arteries in our connective tissue, so we can really use a lot of support there, and I really like it too for helping to keep the veins and arteries healthier. Very good for skin building block, a lot of people notice a tightening of the College and Matrix in their skin when they use the college and one and three formulas, so that's a good building blog also not a vegetarian product. For people who are vegetarian or vegan. They might use silica. Silica is another wonderful collagen building block, and silica is a mineral. There are two brands I really like at mother's market, one is by natural factors, it's called bio, so it's available in a pill and inner liquid, the liquid tastes pretty fishy, I don't want people calling me and complaining that it's a lousy taste, so get the pill, amanat the subject or in a pill of the bio-cell, by all ways, it's just one in the morning and one at night, and there's another product that's a liquid called In The geometer also silica. So both of these are silicon products, the eye down, the good minerals, they break it down into little molecules of Adams floating in water, so very easily absorbed.
I also like that liquid silica by ion topically on the skin for cuts and burns and scrapes and things like that, it takes the sting out of a bird right away, whether it's a burn on a hot oven or hot water or even a sunburn. So I like to have that liquid silica by Don around in my medicine cabinet in case it's needed.
So silica in the bio-call or the ion silica or the college in one and three are excellent College in building blocks, and you can just follow the directions on the labels for those, silica has some great benefits for hair and fingernails and other college and tissues like joints and bones and things like that. This is an important one. Yeah, that'd be no.
No, no, no. Those are the really important, the beauty is a side benefit for us, but fantastic there, then there are a whole range of anti-oxidants that really help to protect the skin, particularly Alpha look, acid and curcumin can be two of the ones that really are helpful. Alpha Napoli acid is a master anti-oxidant, it is both that and water soluble, it goes all through the body, and Dr. Parco wrote some books, he's a dermatologist, he wrote some books, he had some PBS specials, and he wrote some books a number of years ago, one called the wrinkle cure, and one called the Period prescription about nutrients that can be either applied topically or taken internally to help our skin... And if you want a really in-depth study of this whole thing and nutrients for anti-aging, I highly recommend his books, but in the period prescription, he talked about taking alpha acid internally as a supplement, and that really helps to slow down future wrinkles, so it doesn't turn the clock back the way that I... Lorie can, but it can really help to slow things down as we move forward in life, which is a good snapshot of what it does on the inside of the body, it's a tremendous protector for all of ourselves, so I'm a big fan of Alcala poi acid. The best value at mother's market is by doctor's best vitamins. They have a very high potency one that's 600 milligrams per pill, and one a day would be a good anti-aging amount, but it also has excellent support when it comes to blood sugar balance and protection in the body is an antioxidant and liver health helping the liver to regenerate new cells and make Glutathione or master antioxidant, very good for nerve health as well, so lots of good benefits from Alpha LaPointe, 600 milligram for anti-aging, I like two a day for those more therapeutic applications for blood sugar, nerves and liver, so that would be up to 1200 milligrams a day for those particular uses, and then curcumin is really... By the popularity of, this is on the rise, it comes from the Erb turmeric and it's more potent, considered more potent than turmeric. But even curcumin needs a helper to help it absorb, and there are a lot of different strategies that companies use to help and absorb, there are several... Very good ones out there in the marketplace. I like the one by doctor's best called Maria fight his own curcumin. So you can look for the Marva trademarked brand on the label, and that's a combination of curcumin and PC phosphoric in where there's a lot of long names in this iteration to be a teething, I was a Biology minor, they really served me well to be in, but the phosphate Collen or PC is in our cells, so by linking the Curcumin to that, it gets pulled right into the cell for better cellular absorption. That's a great form. There's another one called tera, human by natural factors, where they break it down into teeny tiny particles, and that one's also very well absorbed, so we've got some excellent forms of curcumin in the marketplace, and if I'm not mistaken, this also is good for cancer patients too, is that correct. As they use that or... Well, I am not supposed to say that it does help with protecting our DNA from damage, and that's what we're all looking for, is help with the protection. And there are some excellent books. One of my favorite books on that topic is by Dr. Michael Murray, you can find it at mother's market, it's called How to prevent and treat cancer with natural medicine, and he does have curcumin listed very prominently in that book, so Ask The Expert, he's a naturopathic doctor, so he's the one who can speak to that particular issue okay, it also crosses the blood-brain barrier, so I'm reading a lot more about Cartman for the brain, helping to stabilize and protect the some membranes up there. So lots of good uses for curcumin.
So some of the other different types of nutritional supplements are the good oils, that's the last thing I wanna mention as a supplement form the omega-3 essential fatty acids, especially the ones from the ocean, like fish oil and krill oil and kalmar oil, and now they have a new one from algae for vegetarians and vegans. That's a DHA type of Omega 3 that it comes from the ocean.
So these wonderful omega-3s helped to moisturized our skin from the inside out. They're a good building block for the skin cells themselves, we should have a lot of Omega this in all of our cells, and a lot of people notice better softness and texture of their skin when they take that omega-3 internally. I particularly like the ones from the ocean, but even the ones that are from the land, like flaccid and Chase will also have good Omega-3 for the skin and fiber to help remove toxins from the body, so those are all gonna be great strategies to help our skin, you can also apply coconut oil topically, we talked about how good that was for us to be eating, it can be applied topically to the scan for dry skin, for cracking skin, even for better immune properties in our Skin, rub coconut oil on your skin. You can do it when you're still wet out of the shower, grab some coconut or rabbit and then dry off so that you won't be all greasy afterwards, so Santo. The skin really nicely. If you have dry cracking feet, you can put it on your feet at bed time, put a socon, your feel better in a matter of days. I know many women who even use it on their face as a moisturizer, so terrific, they have some that is coconut flavor and they also have some that's a neutral taste. I use the neutral taste when using it as a skin lotion, neutral flavor, neutral smell, so that I don't smell like a giant coconut running around just... I got back in high, unless your significant other love at... By all means, she's the coconut flavored wood for that, so whatever people want on that regard is good... That's not bad. I remember my grandmother had the most gorgeous scan and I always asked her, what do you do Tyrus to take your makeup off with, and she always used baby hellas, probably not a healthy... I don't know why I tell you all in that all is a good make-up a move as well, just make sure you don't get it in your car door, your eyes, but it's an excellent make-up remover, that's good to know and you're doing something healthy for your skin and that's... Oh, that's good. And then what about water to...
Oh yeah. drinking lots of water. Very important for skin.
Absolutely, water is a universal... Everything for everything.
That's right, I could not stop taking notes when you were talking about... When Valerie all listen, right. I'm going to, I really love it.
I love it.
Well, okay, so you mentioned earlier that the commercial lotions and some screens contain a lot of toxic chemicals, which I just said right, baby will probably has a lot of toxic areas that I'm gonna switch to use the coconut. Are there natural alternatives for skin care, so we just talk about the coconut also, what else? Absolutely, there's... I walked right into that, by the way, in skin creams, when you see Apalachee and skin creams, it's really good for puffins and swelling in the scan, when you see esters in the skin creams, it's really good for a reddish tone, it kinda evens the tone and the color of the skin, when you see DMA E in skin creams that's known as a face lift in a jar... Love the sound of that. I love dementias and firms the skin in about 20 minutes and the effects last for about 24 hours, so that's a great one at a emotional... That's the face I... Ararat, I love that.
I like it.
You can take some samples right out of the spray, so all of those are good, they have a great line of products at mother's market by a company called drama E, Their firming motion, and they have moisturizer, they have serum, they have towers, they have cleanses, have seen and the firming one has the DMA E, the alpha Lapeer, and the esters, so you get all three of those wonderful things together, and then I Leoni acid in the skin creams, just like when we took that internally, it pumped up wrinkles, it'll do the same thing when you apply it topically and drama E as in called their hydrating line. hydrating moisturizer, CRM toner cleanser.
I'm a simple girl, I don't do all the tones cleanser stuff, I just do the serum and use that as a moisturizer and works really well. Germany has a really nice eye cream, that's great, a lip repair cream, and then some of the other things that I recommend people get, get yourself healthy natural skin lotions for your body, natural shampoos and conditioners, natural deodorant because commercial anti-prepares. Add a lot of toxins into our bodies and don't buy your sun screen from a drug store, buy it from a health food store, like mothers, because every one of The sunscreens that they carry at mothers will be much healthier for us and do a much better job and that's a really good point, especially as we're in summer time here, with all of those toxic chemicals in there... Let me ask you a question about... Just a quick one about when people go get those facials and everything, and that's because they have chemicals in there, right.
Comply, there are some salons to specializing natural products, or you could bring your own natural things in to have your facial gun.
Good point, absolutely.
Well, you again have been amazing with all of this wonderful information, so thank you so much for your time, Valerie, we appreciate all of the knowledge and we look forward to having you on again, and in the meantime, you can get more information on Valerie on her website, veneration dot com, and we learn more about her natural approach to making us all healthier and beautiful too, by the way.
