Letter from the CEO
With the change of season comes an exciting addition for Mother’s! This fall we will be opening our 12th store, but what’s especially exciting about this new location is that we are going Hollywood! Specifically, this store will be in the Media District at AVA Hollywood at La Pietra Place. We are excited to provide a neighborhood marketplace where customers can find everything they need for their weekly food shop, stop by for an afternoon green juice, or grab a bottle of wine before movie night.
We believe it will be a place where healthy meets value, and our selection of organic and natural foods complements an active and vibrant California lifestyle.
So as the kids head back to school and pumpkin everything takes over, let’s give thanks to our bodies by nourishing them with the best in organic, health and wellness.

Mother’s Market CEO

California Love
Local Farms & Family Producers
With the widest selection of organic produce in Southern California for over 40 years, Mother’s is your go-to fruit and veggie destination. Bringing Orange County and Los Angeles residents the best in organic does not just happen overnight. Through years of vetting, forming, and maintaining relationships with local farms and family producers, we are able to bring you the best of the best. With fall in mind, we wanted to share some of our amazing partners who supply us, and ultimately you, with top-quality organic produce.
Page 9
Coke Farm
This season, Coke Farms is supplying Mother’s with many items including berries and tomatoes. It all started when founder Dale Coke planted a quarter acre of land with strawberries. He wanted to show that organic food production was possible and by 1981, Coke Farm became one of the first CCOF’s certified farms. Now 40+ years later, Coke Farm represents 80+ organic family farms, encompassing 4,000 acres of farmland. The company also uses as much sustainable packaging as possible.
Revol Greens
Revol Greens are great for the environment and you. That’s why Mother’s is proud to partner with this brand to provide you with salads and kits. Founded in 2017, Revol Greens has quickly grown to become the largest greenhouse lettuce producer in the US. You can expect their lettuce and greens to be top quality, with the freshest taste and peak nutrition value. Grown in an animal and pest-free environment, the lettuce growing process uses no pesticides or herbicides. In addition, Revol Greens is certified by Primus Labs to meet Global Food Safety Initiative Standards (GFSI) which is recognized as one of the highest standards for food safety.

Best Organic Apples
Fall Apple Guide
As summer wanes and fall emerges, one of the joys of the season is a new crop of apples. Mother’s is a destination for the best organic apples, including all of your favorite varieties! Our customers’ top five favorites are the Organic Honeycrisp, Organic Fuji, Organic Sugarbee, Organic Envy and the Organic Granny Smith. If you haven’t tried one of these varieties, keep a look out for them as they come to market. We are here to make your decision easier. Check out the descriptions below and see what variety you should try next!
The Honeycrisp is well-balanced between sweet and tart and known for its crisp texture and juiciness. Its name says it all! The Honeycrisp is the ideal apple to enjoy raw but it also meets the standards for a baking apple. It is available early in the season for all of the treats.
Named after the town where it was developed, the Fuji apple continues to gain popularity because of its sweetness and firm flesh. The Fuji is a very refreshing bite especially if chilled. Introduced into the US in the 1980s, this variety is grown in California and other apple-producing states. The Fuji is a late ripening apple and available late fall.
The Sugarbee apple is the result of cross pollination between a Honeycrisp and an unknown variety- one of nature’s mysteries and a new favorite for us. Crisp, firm and crunchy, its sweetness is perfect for seasonal treats like caramel apples, ciders and a go-to for a cheese platter.
A variety that originated in Australia in 1868, the Granny Smith is well-known and has withstood the test of time. The fruit of a Granny Smith is firm with a light green skin and crisp, juicy flesh. The flavor is tart and acidic. It’s an ideal apple for pies and tarts, as it remains firm when baked. How can you argue with an apple that is still a favorite more than 150 years after its origination?
Sporting a red and yellow peel, the Envy has a sweet, pale yellow flesh with low acid and a slightly floral taste. It originated in New Zealand as the result of a cross between a Royal Gala and a Braeburn. Now grown in the US in Washington state, a freshly-cut Envy apple is hard to beat!

Hearty Fall Meal
Dairy-Free Mushroom Soup
A hot bowl of soup is one of the best fall meals! If you’re looking to cook more at home this season, why not start with this tasty, dairy-free mushroom soup? Here’s how to make it!
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup chopped organic white onion (pre-chopped organic onion in Mother’s produce section makes this a breeze)
4-5 large organic garlic cloves, chopped
2 lbs. Sliced organic cremini or baby portobello mushrooms
½ cup white wine (optional- may use water)
1 tablespoon fresh organic thyme
4 cups broth (vegetable broth works great here)
1 can coconut milk (full fat preferred)
Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish of chopped organic Italian parsley and toasted bread crumbs
Directions:
1. In a large pot, heat olive oil and saute onions and garlic over medium heat for 6 minutes. Add mushrooms, thyme and wine (if using) and cook for 10 minutes
2. Add the broth and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes
3. Ladle out half of the soup and put aside for next steps
4. In the large pot, use your immersion blender and blend this half of the soup until smooth. Add back the soup you put aside and add the coconut milk. Heat through
5. If you have leftover stale bread, toast ½ cup of bread crumbs with 1 tsp. Olive oil in the oven or a skillet on the stovetop. Alternatively, panko crumbs work well. When serving, add chopped parsley to the toasted crumbs and garnish the finished soup in bowls

Air Fryer
Butternut Squash Fries
Fall is the perfect time of year to pull out the air fryer and make some delicious Butternut Squash Fries!
Ingredients:
1 medium organic butternut squash, peeled and cut into 3” lengths (see tips below)
1 teaspoon salt (for a twist, consider Cajun seasoning, garlic salt, Tajín or favorite herb seasoning)
1 tablespoon olive oil or non-stick cooking spray
Soften the rind by following the tips below:
Always pierce holes into squash using a fork or skewer. 5-8 holes about ½” deep
Microwave on high for 4-6 minutes (alternatively you can use the oven at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes)
Let it cool slightly before cutting (cutting glove recommended for safety)
Slice carefully through squash, remove seeds, peel and cut into fries
Directions:
1. Preheat air fryer to 425 Degrees F
2. In a large bowl, lightly brush squash with olive oil or spray the pieces with non-stick cooking spray and then add salt or seasoning, tossing until coated evenly
3. Spread into an even layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes. Shake the basket and cook for an additional 5 to 10 minutes or until desired crispiness.
4. Serve with favorite sauce (Mother’s Homemade Vegan Ranch Dressing is our favorite and you can find it in the homemade Grab & Go section)

Easy Fall Night In Dinner
Homemade Grab & Go Soups
After a long day of work, sometimes the last thing you want to do is cook- and we don’t blame you! Plus, when it gets darker earlier in the evenings, there’s even more motivation to skip the cooking. For a hearty and cozy fall meal that only requires heating, you can’t go wrong with one of Mother’s homemade Grab & Go Soups.
No matter what your taste preferences are, we have a soup you will love. You can stick with the classics such as Chicken Noodle, Creamy Tomato, or Chicken Tortilla or go for something more seasonal. During the fall months, we find ourselves really enjoying the Plant-Based Vegan Chili or Harvest Bisque. For something more unique, go with the Green Pozole, a Mother’s customer favorite, or the Organic Coconut Lentil. Enjoy!

Back-to-School
Sustainable Lunchbox Choices
With school back in session, it’s time to start thinking about school lunches again. The start of the new school year is the perfect time to make some sustainable swaps to make lunches more eco-friendly. If you know you want to make the switch, but think it may be overwhelming, here are three easy changes you can make to get moving in the right direction.
Swap plastic bags for Stasher bags
Go waste-free this school year by replacing single-use plastic bags with Stasher bags. These endlessly reusable, food-grade platinum silicone bags are leak free with their patented Pinch-Loc ™ seal. They are also dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe up to 425 degrees F making them super convenient to use and clean. To make them even better, they contain no BPA, BPS, latex, or phthalates. During your next trip to Mother’s, pick up a few Stasher bags for your kids! We have a feeling you will love them too.
Swap paper bags for a reusable lunch box
Say goodbye to single use paper bags and hello to a cute reusable lunch box. It’s fun to start the school year with a new lunch box. Give your kids a few options to choose from and let them pick their favorite.
Swap Water bottles for a Hydro Flask
For an environmentally-friendly way to drink more water at school, a Hydro Flask is the way to go! These double-walled, vacuum-insulated stainless steel bottles are designed to keep cold liquids cold and hot liquids hot. We love that Hydro Flask also formed Parks For All, a charitable program created to benefit public green spaces and promote happier, healthier lives outdoors for all. Mother’s offers Hydro Flasks in many sizes and colors so there is something for everyone!

Festive and Good for You
Pumpkin Health Benefits
Pumpkins bring to mind a season of jack-o-lanterns, pies and spiced lattes but a pumpkin has more to offer and not only in the fall. Pumpkin is one of the most nutrient-dense fruits. It’s an impressive food that tastes great too. Pumpkin is low in calories and high in fiber, with 49 calories and 2.7 grams of fiber in one cup of cooked pumpkin. It’s a win-win! The nutrients in pumpkin support eyes, skin, immune health and heart health as well as reduce harmful free radical damage and lower cancer risk. Furthermore, pumpkin is a go-to food for health benefits including vitamin A, antioxidants, vitamin C, potassium and more. Consider adding pumpkin seeds as a topping to salads and soups. Layered dishes like vegetarian lasagna, stuffed raviolis, breads and pancakes are just a few ways to add pumpkin to your diet. And then there’s always pie! More than ever, the internet makes it easy to find healthier versions of our holiday favorites: dairy-free, no-bake, raw and sugar-free recipes are all just a click away.
