LETTER FROM THE CEO
Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year’s Eve…as we think of the holiday season, a lot of things come to mind, but for many, there is nothing better than being surrounded by loved ones and a homemade meal. It’s cooking grandma’s famous apple berry pie, it’s the “remember when” moments that make you laugh until you cry, it’s sitting around a table sharing the special dishes you may only make once a year. Mother’s is here to make these magical moments both healthy and affordable this holiday season.
Whether you make everything from scratch or pick up some of our homemade ready-to-eat options, if you are plant-based or like turkey, or anything in between, we are here to serve you and make your festivities the best you have ever had. We are known for the best plant-based sides so if you don’t want to do it all — we got you!
Whatever you’re celebrating this holiday season, may it be filled with good food, good company, and good health.
Happy Holidays!

California Love LOCAL FARMS & FAMILY PRODUCERS
With the widest selection of organic produce in Southern California for over 40 years, Mother’s is your go-to fruit and veggie destination. Bringing Orange County and Los Angeles residents the best in organic does not just happen overnight. Through years of vetting, forming, and maintaining relationships with local farms and family producers, we are able to bring you the best of the best. With winter in mind, we wanted to share some of our amazing partners who supply us, and ultimately you, with top-quality organic produce.
Smallhold supplies Mother’s with specialty mushrooms grown right here in Los Angeles. Their farm, the first-ever Certified Organic mushroom farm in LA County, ensures maximum efficiency of water and energy usage, is run by an incredible team who is always paid above a living wage, and composts 100% of spent mushroom substrate (the growing medium for their mushrooms). Smallhold grows some of the most beautiful, unique mushrooms you’ve ever tasted: Blue Oyster, Lion’s Mane, Yellow Oyster, Trumpets, Shiitake, and more. Educating and sparking curiosity about mushrooms is an integral part of Smallhold’s mission. They want people to ask where their food comes from, think about their diet, and reconnect with the planet. Eat more mushrooms!
Rancho Meladuco Dates was established five years ago by Joan Smith. Smith was inspired by a lifetime of enjoying food, horticulture and working outdoors and she decided to turn a passion for farm fresh dates into something bigger. She is a CPA and mother of three turned date farmer – who, with no prior professional experience in the food or farming industry, leapt head first into her passion project, planting roughly 200 date palms on her family ranch in the Coachella Valley. The farm produces dates that are sweet and caramely and reminiscent of brown sugar. The brand’s illustrated boxes have attracted as much attention as their dates, and their hand- picked, hand–packed delicious California grown dates have landed on the pages of gift guides in Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart, Oprah, Bon Appetit, Real Simple, Forbes, Food & Wine and more.

Seasonal Produce Spotlight POMEGRANATE HEALTH BENEFITS A harbinger of the holiday seasons to come, Pomegranates arrive in stores in late September and are available through December. They are juicy, sweet fruits with edible seeds called arils which are rich in fiber. Pomegranates are known for their vibrantly colored juice but they have so much more to offer. Rich in antioxidants, pomegranates have the potential to support heart, brain, urinary and digestive health. Pomegranates may also help in keeping inflammation at bay and may help fight harmful microorganisms. Juiced, a pomegranate is a great addition to your smoothie or juice blend and makes a delicious acid in a vinaigrette dressing or marinade. The seeds are decorative and tasty in a salad and the pop of color makes a holiday- worthy presentation! Look for organic pomegranates at Mother’s!

Delightful SALTED CARAMEL APPLE PIE
This holiday season enjoy a delectably delicious apple pie with a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavor. This salted caramel apple pie will be the hit at your Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving, or work potluck.
INGREDIENTS:
Pie crust of your choice
Salted caramel:
1 cup organic white sugar
¼ cup water
½ cup organic unsalted butter
½ cup organic heavy cream
1 ½ t. organic sea salt
Apple filling:
5 organic lemons
6 organic apples of your choice Seasoning:
⅓ cup organic sugar
2 t. organic flour
¼ t. ground organic cinnamon
¼ t. ground organic allspice
⅛ t. ground organic nutmeg
Top of pie:
1 beaten organic egg
Organic sugar for sprinkling
1 t. organic sea salt
DIRECTIONS:
Pie Crust – Use your favorite recipe to prepare 2 pie crusts. Roll one crust to fit a 9-inch pie pan and cut the top into a lattice. Chill the rolled crust.
Salted Caramel – Combine sugar and water over low heat to dissolve sugar. Add in the butter and bring to a boil (be careful not to burn it). Cook at a low boil until the mixture becomes a golden brown chestnut color.
Once the mixture becomes the golden brown color remove from heat and add the heavy cream (be careful as the mixture is hot and will bubble, splatter and steam). Whisk the mixture together to combine over low heat and add the sea salt. Set aside while you prep the apple filling.
Apple Filling – Juice lemons into a mixing bowl. Core, peel, and thinly slice the whole apples. Toss all the apple slices in the freshly squeezed lemon juice to prevent browning and to add flavor.
In a small mixing bowl combine the seasoning for the apple filling. Toss the seasoning mixture over the apples and use your hands to coat the apple slices in the seasoning.
Assembly
Preheat oven to 375°F
Gather pie crust, caramel and apple filling.
Layer about ⅓ of the apples on the bottom of the crust so there are no gaps. Pour ⅓ of the caramel over the apples. Repeat this step two more times. (Try to save some caramel for the top of the pie once completed.)
Lay the lattice crust over and crimp the edges of the crust. Add the last of the caramel over the pie. Brush crust with beaten egg, sprinkle sugar and sea salt.
Bake pie on baking sheet larger than the pie for 20 minutes. Reduce oven to 325°F and bake for 30 minutes or until the apples are just soft.
Let pie cool and then enjoy!

DIY HOT CHOCOLATE BAR
For a festive addition to your holiday party this season, consider setting up a hot chocolate bar for your guests to enjoy. Not only will it be fun for guests to create their own custom hot chocolate, but also, the hot chocolate bar doubles as festive decor – and it’s surprisingly easy to put together! Here’s how to do it.
Toppings
The star of the show for a hot chocolate bar is the variety of toppings! Here are some of our favorites to include:
Whipped cream
Mini chocolate chips
Peppermint bark
Chocolate syrup
Candy canes or peppermint sticks
Sprinkles
Toasted coconut shreds
Mini marshmallows
Caramel sauce
Cookies
Hot Chocolate
For the hot chocolate itself, we recommend skipping the mix and making it from scratch. Once made, you can leave it in a slow cooker so that it stays warm all evening and guests can use a ladle to serve themselves.
SPIKE IT (ADULTS 21+ ONLY)! For the adults, a great addition to a hot chocolate bar is booze! Some options that pair well with hot chocolate include coffee liqueur, peppermint vodka, and an Irish cream liqueur.

Manifest the New Year DIY VISION BOARD
A fun group or solo activity to close 2022 and welcome 2023 is to create your own vision board. After the busy holiday season, it’s the perfect opportunity to sit back and relax with friends while envisioning the year ahead. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some guidelines that can help.
Gather the Supplies – If you’re planning to make a physical vision board, the first step is to make sure you have all the necessary supplies. For the board, you can get a small poster board, corkboard, or magnetic board. Depending on which type of board you go with, you will need glue sticks, adhesive tape, or push pins. From there, you just need scissors and the most important part, the magazines!
For those planning to make a digital board, there are many online vision board websites you can choose from. Our favorite is Canva.
Establish Your Goals – The hardest part! It’s important to really think through what you want to include on your vision board – both big and small goals. Think about what you want to improve upon, new activities you want to try, what you enjoy doing…there are endless options.
Pair Your Goals with Visuals – As you’re cutting images, quotes, phrases, words, etc. out of the magazines, make sure everything you’re including fits your goals and represents things you truly want in your life. You can clip and glue everything as you create the board; however, we prefer to clip out a bunch of stuff and then organize it all after.
Create Your Vision Board – Once you have everything you want on your vision board, it’s time to attach it all to your board. Lay it out in a way that speaks to you while enjoying snacks and a glass of wine!
