Letter from the CEO

This holiday season, cheers to spending quality time together and sharing homemade meals with friends and family. Dining out has become expensive, so this holiday season, let’s return to cooking. Using mother’s ingredients, you can definitely create restaurant-worthy dishes to impress your in-laws or critical cousins or even your boss (have lots of wine at that one). Baking is a household tradition – I am looking forward to doughing out some family traditions and inviting my friends and my kids to come bake with me – holiday gingerbread house contests are so much fun!

Creating restaurant-quality meals and bakery baked treats always begins with the finest ingredients, and at Mother’s, we’re dedicated to offering you the best – BOOM: introducing the premium line of Mother’s brand beef, chicken, and salmon (wagyu, sustainable, organic and grass-fed). Cook the protein and if you’re short on time, don’t hesitate to just grab Mother’s homemade sides (you can pretend like you made them in advance – they’re just like homemade – we promise not to reveal your secret)!

Advent is upon us – and we have some notable and new premium offers coming your way because we want you to know how truly thankful we are to have you as part of the Mother’s Market family.

Cheers to you. Happy Holidays.

Warmest wishes,

Dorothy Carlow

Mother’s market and kitchen CEO

Must-Try Items Trending in our Produce Department

Throughout our store, we always try to have new, local and trending items! Bringing you the best products is important to us and that’s why we work to build and maintain relationships with our vendors. In our Produce Department specifically, Mother’s has developed relationships with farms and family producers for years, including Rancho Meladuco Dates and SugarBee Apples. Thank you for supporting our farm. Rancho Malduco Date Farm. Rancho Meladuco Dates was established by Joan Smith. Smith was inspired by a lifetime of enjoying food, horticulture and working outdoors and she decided to turn a passion for farm fresh dates into something bigger. She is a CPA and mother of three turned date farmer – who, with no prior professional experience in the food or farming industry, leapt head first into her passion project, planting roughly 200 date palms on her family ranch in the Coachella Valley. The farm produces dates that are sweet and caramelly and reminiscent of brown sugar. The brand’s illustrated boxes have attracted as much attention as their hand-picked, hand-packed delicious California-grown dates- which have landed on the pages of gift guides in the Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart, Oprah, Bon Appetit, Real Simple, Forbes, Food & Wine, and more.

Sugar Bee

The SugarBee Apple was created by honey bees who mixed the pollen of a mystery apple variety with a Honeycrisp. This apple variety has notes of honey, caramel and molasses and pairs well with cheeses such as smoked gouda and sharp cheddar. SugarBee Apple trees were first discovered when grower Chuck Nystrom noticed a unique branch in his orchard that produced a beautiful bi-colored apple that was crisp, sweet and juicy. Many of the SugarBee growers are part of third and fourth generation families who are committed to the best agriculture and business practices so their families can continue to farm for future generations.

Entertaining tip thanksgiving stovetop simmer

While you can burn candles or use an essential oil diffuser when having guests over for Thanksgiving, another option is to create a stovetop simmer. This is a great, natural alternative to make your home smell wonderful this holiday season.

You can create many different scents based on the ingredients and the vibe you are looking for, like clean, cozy, or holiday. Pick from the many different fruits, herbs, and spices you have on hand or pick some up during your next trip to Mother’s.

For a classic winter combo, you can’t go wrong with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cranberries, and orange slices. To make the simmer pot, simply bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Then add in the ingredients, allowing it to continue boiling for a few minutes. After that, turn the heat down to simmer. Add water as needed, approximately every 30 minutes or so.

Before you know it, your home will smell delightful – perfect for entertaining!

Creating a Winter Skin Care ROUTINE THAT NOURISHES YOU FROM SOUL TO SKIN

Winter season is such a magical time. The family and friend gatherings, plus the delicious food and twinkling lights, bring a magical touch to the world and can make us feel really good inside. But as the weather changes, it also brings a set of challenges for our skin. The crisp air, central heating, and blustery winds can leave our skin feeling dry, parched, and in need of some TLC.

Enter Heritage Store’s Aura Glow Collection, a line specifically curated to brighten your glow, even on the coldest of nights. Let’s explore winter skin care tips using this enchanting collection to keep your skin radiant and glowing, even when the sun’s hiding out behind clouds.

Heritage Store Aura glow cleanser, Heritage Store aura glow mask, Heritage Store aura glow moisturizer, Heritage Store aura glow eye cream.

Understanding Winter’s Toll on Skin

Winter weather isn’t just about rosy cheeks. For many, it’s a time when the skin becomes drier, itchier, and more sensitive. The main culprit? Lack of moisture. The cold air outside and the warm air inside strip the skin of its natural hydration, leading to a compromised skin barrier. This means that your skin care routine should change to meet these needs.

The Magic of Aura Glow

Heritage Store’s Aura Glow Collection is not just another line of skincare products; it’s an experience. Infused with potent, brightening actives and clear quartz crystals, the skin care collection ensures your skin remains hydrated, nourished, and glowing, even in the heart of winter.

18 | Organic Living Magazine

Incorporating Aura Glow into Your Winter Skin Care Regime

For your morning routine:

Step 1: Begin with the Aura Glow Cleanser, a gentle cleanser, to help exfoliate, smooth and balance uneven skin, while removing makeup and impurities. Some featured ingredients include Glycolic Acid and Niacinamide to help smooth and balance skin tone. Seaweed and Algae Extract are rich in antioxidants to hydrate and brighten.

Step 2: Apply toner and any facial serums; toner is a great step to add further moisture and helps the skin absorb the rest of your skin care products. Heritage Store has options in other skin care collections.

Step 3: Dab on Aura Glow Eye Cream under the eyes. This whipped eye gel cream will help illuminate, hydrate and help to reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and puffiness with the help of Bakuchiol, Silk Tree and Kelp Extracts. Natural mineral pigments in the cream also help illuminate and color-correct.

Step 4: Then, take a couple of pumps of the Aura Glow Moisturizer. Gently press it into your skin to help lock in moisture. Featured ingredients include Bakuchiol and Squalane, which work together to smooth skin and help give it a plumper appearance. Nasturtium Extract helps brighten skin tone and boost radiance.

Step 5: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Remember, snow reflects sunlight, increasing the risk of UV damage, so even in winter months it’s important to apply sunscreen.

MothersMarket.com | 19

For your night routine:

Step 1: Cleanse your skin to remove the day’s grime and makeup with Aura Glow Cleanser.

Step 2: A couple of times a week, apply Aura Glow Mask, a brightening treatment that helps gently exfoliate the skin with AHA and Fruit Acids. Tara and Sea Moss improve the overall appearance of the face, minimize the appearance of pores and increase radiance. Hyaluronic Acid helps lift, tighten and plump the skin for a flash beauty effect and Gluconolactone helps balance uneven skin tone.

Step 3: Apply any special treatments, such as face oils or serums.

Step 4: Lock in moisture with Aura Glow Moisturizer and Aura Glow Eye Cream.

Don’t Forget the Rest of Your Body

Your face isn’t the only area that needs attention. Apply a rich body butter or oil all over, focusing on dry areas like elbows, knees and hands.

In addition to moisturizing, regular exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells. Make time to unwind with a warming, relaxing bath during cold evenings to help your body reset after all long, busy days.

Additional Ways to Support Dry Skin

Winter is all about layering clothes and doubling up on moisturizing skin care. Why not make sure to support hydration even further?

Tip 1: If the air in your home feels dry, consider investing in a humidifier. It adds moisture to the air, preventing your skin from drying out.

Tip 2: Drink water. Hydration isn’t just about what you apply externally. Drinking water ensures your skin remains hydrated from within.

Tip 3: Eat lots of water-filled vegetables. Holiday meals will consist of lots of sodium-filled and sugary foods that can further lead to dehydrated skin. Eat more water-rich vegetables like celery, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, tomato and zucchini to combat dehydration.

During the holiday season, you probably notice pomegranates frequently incorporated into dishes and tablescapes. This fruit is filled with sweet and tart seeds, called arils, that are antioxidant-rich and may help reduce inflammation. What’s the Difference

HACHIYA VS FUYU PERSIMMONS

If you’ve visited the produce department recently, you may have noticed that persimmons are in season, but do you know the difference between two of the most popular varieties, Hachiya and Fuyu? While the two can be similar in color, ranging from yellow to deep orange, they are actually quite different.

Sweet and flavorful, Fuyu Persimmons have a “honey-like” taste and squat-shaped appearance. While this variety of persimmons can be eaten both firm or soft, they are best eaten while still crisp like an apple. This is because they are a lot less acidic. We recommend incorporating Fuyu Persimmons into seasonal salads.

Hachiya Persimmons are sweet with hints of honey, raisins, apricots, and brown sugar. As the more astringent variety, Hachiya Persimmons should be eaten when they are very soft and ripe. When they feel like an over-ripe tomato, that’s when you know they are ready to eat! They are delicious when eaten plain or even frozen.

Bread, cheese, and butter- who wouldn’t love that combination? Make this pull–apart bread this holiday season and be the talk of the party. With just a handful of items and under an hour of time, you’ll have the perfect treat for your guests that doubles as the centerpiece for the table!

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 lb. pizza dough, refrigerated

• Egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp water)

• 7 mozzarella sticks

• 1/4 c. melted organic butter

• 1/2 c. organic parmesan, finely grated

• 1 T. organic basil, thinly sliced

• 1 T. organic parsley, chopped

• 1 T. organic rosemary, chopped

• Marinara, warmed (for serving)

• Round cheese of choice (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cut mozzarella sticks into 1” pieces and set aside.

3. On a floured surface, divide pizza dough into two pieces. Stretch and roll each piece of dough into a long rectangle, then cut dough into 2” squares (you’ll need 33 total).

4. Wrap a dough square around each piece of mozzarella, forming a tightly sealed ball. Place balls seam-side down on the baking sheet in the shape of a Christmas tree (they should be touching). Brush egg wash on dough balls and bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes. If you plan to add cheese for dipping, leave a circular spot in the middle of the tree where you can add the cheese later once the dough balls have baked.

5. Meanwhile, whisk together melted butter, Parmesan, and herbs. Brush on baked pizza balls

Add cheese in the middle of the tree if you planned to do that. Make sure to slightly warm cheese first. Serve bread warm with marinara for dipping.

CHRISTMAS MORNING BRUNCH BOARD

If you’re someone who always hosts a Christmas brunch or if you’re looking to have Christmas brunch this year to start a new tradition, why not switch things up and create a brunch board? This way, you and your guests get tons of delicious options to choose from – and it’s very post-worthy. Start by adding your classic main breakfast dishes such as pancakes, waffles, eggs, and toast. Then you can add the sides, which are equally as important in our opinion. Side options include bacon, fresh organic fruit, muffins, yogurt, and cheeses. The options really are endless.

They key is to carefully place these items onto a big board instead of serving them on individual dishes. Begin by placing the bigger items such as the pancakes and waffles, layering them to create a “river.” Then place any ramekins of things such as syrup, jams, and yogurts. From there, fill in the empty spaces with your other mains and sides, making sure that you cover the entire board really well.

And what’s brunch without mimosas? Grab a bottle of champagne and pair it with Mother’s famous Organic Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice! For a non-alcoholic option, mix a sparkling water with organic juice or pineapple juice.

• ½ c. unsalted butter

• ½ c. organic honey

• 2 T. organic Dijon mustard

• ¼ t. organic cinnamon

• ¼ t. organic cloves

• 4-5 cloves organic garlic, smashed and chopped

DIRECTIONS:

1. Unwrap ham and trim away rind, leaving fat. Let settle to room temperature (about 1 – 2 hours).

2. Preheat oven to 300°F.

3. Line a baking dish with parchment paper.

4. Place ham in pan and using a very sharp knife, score a 1 inch wide diamond pattern, ¼ inch dee.p

5. Pour 1/3 cup water in the pan and cover the ham with foil or parchment and bake for 30 minutes.

6. Heat butter in saucepan until golden. Add in brown sugar, honey, mustard, and spices until dissolved, about 3 minutes.

7. Reduce heat and add in garlic. Cook until glaze begins to simmer.

8. After the ham has cooked for the 30 minutes, carefully remove ham from the oven, increase temperature of the oven to 425°F, discard the foil or parchment covering, pour one third of the glaze over the ham and bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Repeat this two additional times, using some pan juices as well when glazing (One hour and 15 minutes total oven time).

9. Let ham rest 20 minutes before slicing.

Celebratory Snacking

A PLANT-BASED CHARCUTERIE BOARD FOR YOUR NEW YEAR’S EVE NIGHT IN WITH FRIENDS

If you’re having friends over this NYE, it’s important to figure out what food to serve, whether it’ll be a full dinner or light bites. If you go with the latter, one great option to serve is a homemade plant-based charcuterie board. It’s perfect for munching on throughout the night and everyone is sure to love it!

Start with selecting the plant-based center for the platter. Pictured are red curry lentils that are cooked in an instant pot and served warm (try this recipe at pinchofyum.com). To make it vegan, just omit the butter. Next, cut organic fruit on skewers is an easy and healthy way to balance the savory flavors. Plant-based crackers and olive oil tortas for dipping are a must-have and fresh organic mini peppers are great for color and flavor. The most fun is a nut-based “cheese” that is spreadable and satisfies all the creamy needs. Plus, add some of Mother’s famous homemade guacamole for an extra boost to your board. Then add some olives and dips to round out the platter.

INGREDIENTS:

• Ines Rosales Sweet Olive Oil Tortas

• Sesmark Rice Thins

• Matiz Marcona Almonds

• Mother’s Homemade Grab & Go Guacamole

• Lantana Edamame Hummus

• Majestic Garlic Raw Vegan Spread

• Nuts for Cheese Smoky Gouda Style Wedge
