SOLARAY
OWN THE STAGE IN 2024
Each new year, women of all ages make resolutions to eat better, exercise more, and stress less. For 2024, Solaray, one of the original supplement pioneers, wants to encourage women to also take charge of their wellness by talking openly about their unique health concerns and by getting the support they need for their specific life stage, from menstruation to postmenopause. After all, these aren’t taboo topics, rather the normal hormonal milestones women reach and move through as they age. Solaray wants to help all women own the stage, so they can look and feel their best—today and tomorrow.
Solaray her life STAGESTM, a first-of-its-kind supplement line, offers doctor-formulated solutions at every life phase, with clinically backed ingredients women can count on. Like all Solaray supplements, the products are lab- verified for purity and potency. Their STAGES lineup is also vegan and gluten-free.
For Women, By Women
To create the most efficacious products, the women of Solaray’s innovation team pooled their knowledge and experience with that of nationally renowned MD Pamela Peeke. A former researcher with the National Institutes of Health who has been named one of the country’s top physicians by the Consumers’ Research Council of America, Dr. Peeke brings over three decades of expertise in women’s health to Solaray’s cutting-edge STAGES formulas.
“I’m someone who believes in integrative medicine,” shares Dr. Peeke, explaining that for women this means looking at their hormonal journey as stages that are all linked together. “I partnered with Solaray to provide women with a holistic approach to support, from young adulthood through the postmenopausal years—to help them address the sometimes frustrating and uncomfortable symptoms they may experience, and to help enhance a woman’s quality of life during these often- challenging transitions.”
†As experienced in conjunction with a normal, healthy period.
‡As experienced in conjunction with perimenopause and menopause.

Potent, Science-Backed Ingredients = Powerful Supplements
STAGES supplements are anchored by clinically studied ingredients, so women can rest assured they’re getting the trusted support they deserve. In addition to these targeted herbs and nutrients, the products (excluding Libido) contain ingredients for blood glucose and thyroid support, plus a special trace mineral complex to help promote overall wellness.*
Equally important: what is not in these products. They’re made without soy or hormones.
The expert formulations deliver one complete solution for each stage, addressing women’s most common concerns at that time. Altogether, they’re a comprehensive lineup: As women move into their next phase, they can simply switch to the next formula to find support for any lingering and new issues.
PMS & Menstrual
For most women, the menstrual stage begins around age 12 and continues until around age 40. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days, with PMS symptoms occurring in the week leading up to menstruation. There’s a great deal of hormone fluctuation happening during this time. Though not all women experience symptoms, many certainly are aware of the discomfort, mood shifts, and changes in energy level that can occur.
STAGES PMS & Menstrual is designed to help promote a healthy cycle, specifically to provide support for menstrual discomfort, including breast tenderness, plus mood and energy.†* The expert blend features vitex, also known as chasteberry—a traditional herb long used for women’s wellness; green tea extract; and scientifically backed saffron, shown in multiple clinical studies to support mood and overall mental outlook.*
Perimenopause
Meaning “around menopause,” perimenopause refers to the menopausal transition. For some women, this stage can begin as early as their mid-30s. But for most, it starts some time in their 40s and lasts an average of four years, though the duration can vary. Perimenopause is a unique stage in which women may still have a menstrual cycle but also experience certain menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes. Healthcare providers can help women determine if they are in this phase.
STAGES Perimenopause is formulated to continue providing period and mood support, but it’s also designed to support perimenopausal hot flashes and night sweats and to help promote sound sleep.†‡* Like the PMS formula, it includes clinically studied saffron—also shown to support an array of perimenopause and menopause symptoms— along with vitex and black cohosh, one of the most well-known herbs for hot flash support.‡*
MothersMarket.com | 9
Menopause
Commonly called “The Change,” menopause is the particular point in time when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. In the United States, the average age of menopause is 52, but as with the timing of all stages, it differs from woman to woman. Common menopausal symptoms can persist for years, beginning in perimenopause and continuing into postmenopause.
STAGES Menopause is crafted to support menopausal hot flashes and night sweats plus sound sleep, along with mood and energy to help women get through the day. ‡*It also supports weight loss along with overall body composition and a healthy hip and waist circumference.* It’s all thanks to a clinically studied orange extract and scientifically backed saffron, plus green tea and black cohosh. The formula is designed to be taken when a woman no longer needs any cycle support, when finding comfort through hot flashes and night sweats is her primary concern and supporting a healthy weight and energy levels is also important.‡*
Postmenopause
As its name suggests, postmenopause is the time after menopause has occurred. Once women reach this stage, they remain in it for the rest of their lives. Menopausal symptoms lesson and eventually cease, though new concerns arise with age—specifically, women may need extra cognitive support in this phase of life.
STAGES Postmenopause helps support lingering hot flashes and night sweats plus overall mood and sleep.‡* Like the Menopause formula, it also supports weight loss.* But it uniquely provides a proven form of resveratrol, clinically studied for cognitive function and performance.* This formula is there when a woman may still need some support through hot flashes, but weight and cognitive support are her main focuses. ‡*
Libido
Not a distinct stage unto itself, women can experience loss of libido across all life phases as hormone levels change.
STAGES Libido is designed to help promote a healthy drive by supporting enhanced arousal, natural lubrication, and sexual satisfaction.* What’s more, it also supports mental energy and occasional stress to help women find the right mindset for intimacy.* It features a proven ashwagandha extract. Known primarily as an adaptogen, this ancient herb has also been shown to support female libido.* This product can be taken alongside the other STAGES formulas.

Your Wellness Era
Digestive Support (Mother’s Version)
As you enter your wellness era this new year, one area that you may choose to focus on is digestive support. Your digestive system is made up of many organs and is responsible for breaking down foods and liquids so your body can absorb and use the nutrients from them. For those working on supporting their digestive system this year, some areas to consider focusing on are to cleanse, repair, balance, and maintain. Let’s break down each.
| Organic Living Magazine
Cleanse
Some people may be looking for a way to flush out their digestive system, detoxing the body and eliminating waste. While drinking water can definitely help with this, if you’re looking for some additional help, you may look to these supplements:
Charcoal – Has the ability to absorb unwanted materials and gas in the digestive tract.*
Psyllium Husk – Is an excellent source of both soluble and insoluble natural dietary fiber, which could help with regularity.*
Triphala – Is a gentle blend of three fruits to support the entire GI Tract that has been shown to support detoxification.*
Magnesium Oxide – Is a form of magnesium that can help sluggish digestion, and create a happier, healthier gut.*
Repair
Gut health is super important and if you’re looking to improve your current gut health, natural supplements may help. Some to learn more about include:
Zinc – Is known as a soothing mineral for the digestive tract and as an aid in protein and carbohydrate metabolism.*
L-Glutamine – Is an amino acid that can be found in the gastrointestinal tract that supports the integrity of the intestinal lining.*
Aloe – Has the ability to balance digestion and stomach pH while aiding in nutrient absorption.*
Probiotics – Are microorganisms that can support digestive health.*
MothersMarket.com |
Balance
An unbalanced gut can lead to a variety of issues that may leave you feeling discomfort. What you choose to eat and what you choose to avoid eating can assist in balancing your gut microbiome, however, for some people this is not enough and supplementation may be necessary. Some supplements to look into include:
Mastic Gum – Supports the health of the gastric and duodenal cells and tissues to promote gastrointestinal health.*
Betaine HCL – Is a supplement that provides gentle acid to support balanced conditions in the stomach to speed up digestion.*
Lactase – Is an enzyme that helps break down the milk sugar lactose into an easily digestible form.*
DGL – Is a licorice extract. Licorice root has been used for a variety of wellness practices and purposes throughout history, including as a digestive aid.*
Maintain
Already have a good gut? Don’t forget to maintain it too! Aside from consuming a well-balanced diet, some choose to further maintain their gut health by supplementing with:
Prebiotics – Supplements that are typically high in fiber that act as food for probiotics.*
Pancreatin – Has naturally occurring protease, amylase, and lipase that support protein, carbohydrate, and fat digestion.*
Bromelain – Is an enzyme from pineapples that accelerates the breakdown of proteins.*
Digestive Enzymes – Play a role in the body by supporting optimal digestion by helping the body absorb nutrients and convert food into energy.*

Organic to Our Roots
Best Organic Produce Anywhere
Why Mother’s
Mother’s Market & Kitchen is a leader in offering the freshest and healthiest produce. Since 1978, we have been supporters of the Organic Certification and industry leaders in the Truth in Labeling movement on veggies and fruit.
We are first to market with seasonal favorites (Sumo Citrus, anyone?) and always non-GMO.
With exceptional quality and weekly specials, you can be sure to find the freshest produce that will last longer in your home. When you walk into any Mother’s in Southern California the first thing you will see is our produce section. And with more organic fruits and vegetables than anywhere else, you can see the bounty of our local farmers.
| Organic Living Magazine
Consumer Benefits of Organic Produce
Why shop organic you might ask? At Mother’s, we strive to always carry organic produce when seasonally available and if not organic, always 100% non-GMO. This guarantees that what you are buying and putting into your body is of the highest quality in the market. Moreover, organic produce has many beneficial aspects to it for you as the consumer.
Organic produce has a better taste and flavor compared to conventionally grown produce. While taste preferences can vary and this is a subjective perception, from what we hear from customers, you can taste the Mother’s produce difference and we agree! Additionally, organic crops may have slightly higher levels of certain nutrients. However, the overall nutritional differences between organic and conventional produce are still a topic of ongoing research and debate.
Other than how the produce tastes and what nutritional aspects there are, organic produce is also hugely helpful to the farms and the farmland they are grown on.
Organic farming prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides. Instead, organic farmers rely on natural alternatives, such as companion planting and biological pest control, which may be perceived as less harmful to the environment and human health. Organic farming practices often focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship. Techniques such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and reduced soil disturbance are believed to promote soil health and biodiversity. Many people appreciate that organic farming avoids the use of synthetic fertilizers. Instead, organic farmers use natural fertilizers, such as compost and animal manure, which are believed to enhance soil fertility without the potential negative impacts associated with synthetic chemicals.
Consumer Benefits of Locally Sourced Produce
We have all heard the “shop local” ads, and at Mother’s, we believe that to be true. The vast majority of our farmers are local to our backyard in California. What does that mean for you and your family? Firstly, it means that you are getting the freshest produce you can. Less time on a plane, boat, and/or truck means you are getting it as close to when it was picked as possible. Secondly, the California sun hits the soil and packs the produce with so many nutrients that the overall product is super nutritious. Thirdly, once you take it home, it will last longer on your shelf for you to enjoy!
Combined, it makes sense why the organic produce movement has continued to gain popularity over the past few decades. We’ve been supporters since day 1 and hope that you visit our produce department to explore the amazing seasonal and every day offerings we have available.

Bringing Orange County and Los Angeles residents the best organic fruits and vegetables does not just happen overnight. Sespe Creek Organics
Sespe Creek Organics is a family farming business located in Ventura County, California. Their mild, coastal climate and alluvial soils produce high quality lemons, oranges and avocados. We love that their farms are CCOF certified organic and Primus Global Food Safety certified. Plus, they use compost, cover crops, and foliar sprays to promote plant and soil health as well as release beneficial insects on a regular basis. Additionally, they do not use any synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or herbicides. To ensure freshness and quality, they pick and pack their fruit!
This season, Sespe Creek Organics is supplying us with Organic Lemons, both loose and bagged! Pick some up during your next trip to Mother’s.

Citrus Season is Here!
Orange You Glad You Picked Me
Orange season is upon us at Mother’s. Organic Naval Oranges are a great source of vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants. But how do you choose the best orange so you have the best flavor when you peel? See below for tips on picking, storage, and uses (outside of eating the slices).
Picking a Good One
– Choose oranges with a heft for their size and ones that have firm, finely textured skin.
– An orange’s skin color is not an indicator of flavor or ripeness. Those with greenish tint can be just as tasty as bright orange ones (don’t judge an orange by its cover – or should we say peel?).
– Avoid any with soft spots or those that feel spongy.
How to Store Your Oranges
– You can store oranges at room temperature for 1-2 days.
– Ripe oranges should be refrigerated and can last for up to 2 weeks.
Ways to Eat Oranges
Slices!!!!
• Remove the peel with a knife or orange peeler. If you work the orange around in your hands you can loosen the peel to make it easier.
Marinades and Dressings.
• Slice open the orange and juice it. Then, add the juice to a marinade for steak or chicken to add some flavor. You can also use the juice to punch up your salad dressing.
Grilled.
• Cut open the orange and grill. Top with ice cream or whipped cream for a different kind of dessert.

7 Products To Help You Up Your Protein Intake
After the holidays are over, the eggnog has gone bad, and the champagne is flat, it’s time to start your wellness journey. Some good advice for this time of year is to focus on your protein intake. Protein is key for your body to create and maintain every cell that makes “you” up. In short, protein fuels and powers your body, like gas in your car.
Cottage Cheese
Good Culture Cottage Cheese is great for snacking on during the day, eating for breakfast in the morning, or using as a dip at your next party.
Not only can you use it in many different ways, but Good Culture Cottage Cheese packs the protein. With a minimum of 14g of protein per serving, you can be sure to hit your protein goal every day.
Eggs
Starting your day with a good breakfast is key. Adding Mother’s Brand Eggs to your breakfast is a great way to sneak in a couple extra grams of protein in the morning. With about 6g of protein per egg, it’s a no brainer.
Chicken
The perfect chicken for anything you are doing — grilling, sautéing, frying or baking. With 25g of protein per serving, Mother’s Brand Chicken will help you crush your protein goal.
| Organic Living Magazine
Lentils
For those looking for a veggie protein source, lentils are a great option. Now sure how to incorporate them? Add them into soups or salads. They provide 18g of protein per cup after all!
Beef
Mother’s Brand Beef has at least 21g of protein in each serving — the exact amount will depend on the cut. From ground beef to filet, we got you covered on the beef side.
Salmon
Mother’s Brand Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and packed full of all sorts of great vitamins for your body including 17g of protein. Toss the salmon on the grill to add a smoky flavor to it.

Take Note!
Mother’s Protein Prep
With the arrival of the new year, many people want to make healthier choices to fit their “new year, new me” mantra. In the spirit of making better choices when it comes to food, here are some healthy ways to prepare Mother’s Steaks, Ground Beef, Salmon and Chicken that will have your body saying “NEW ME.” The easiest, healthiest way to cook all of these proteins would be to KISS (keep it super simple) by prepping your protein with salt and pepper. When cooking be sure to have high heat and if you need to, you can use a little oil (we suggest Mother’s EVOO!). Below are some more prep ideas to try for each protein.
Mother’s Ground Beef: Mix the ground beef with some coconut aminos, mustard powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into patties and make burgers.
Mother’s Steak: Marinate the steak for at least 30 minutes in a little EVOO (Mother’s brand of course), salt, pepper, cumin, cayenne, and paprika for a spicier take on steak.
Mother’s Salmon: Mince fresh garlic and sprinkle on the flesh of the salmon with salt and pepper. Slice 3 rounds of lemon and place on top of the garlic and use the rest of the lemon to drizzle lemon juice over the salmon.
Mother’s Chicken: Season with salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, chili powder, and cayenne (if you like it hot). Place inside a crock pot and pour on your favorite salsa. You just made some perfect salsa chicken!

Mother’s New Oils
Mother’s Market & Kitchen has just launched a full line of oils, add to our existing (and very popular) Mother’s Brand Extra Virgin Olive Oil. With the new line of oils you are sure to find the best oil for what you are looking for when cooking, entertaining, and stocking your pantry. Below are some recommendations on how best to use each type of oil, but don’t just take our word for it…try them all and find new uses for them that suit your needs.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Our EVOO is a perfect fit in any pantry. This oil is an amazing cooking olive oil and does well at high heat when cooking veggies and browning meat. Don’t sleep on this EVOO in a marinade either when grilling.
Garlic Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Mother’s EVOO with the perfect hint of garlic. Use it all the ways you would the Mother’s EVOO but with the added hit of garlic. This olive oil would also be great as a dip with a piece of crusty bread. Yum!
Avocado Oil
This oil may help support heart heath and improve your body’s ability to bring in vitamin E and health-promoting fatty acids.* With a high smoke point, avocado oil is great for baking, frying and sautéing. Secret Tip: Try it in a salad dressing as well, you can’t go wrong.
Canola Oil
Mother’s Canola Oil might be the most versatile oil in the line — think of a 5 tool player in baseball or a basketball star that can play and understand the scheme for every position. The light flavor and smooth texture along with the high smoke point make this oil a must-have. Use canola oil when you are stir-frying your next batch of Mother’s organic veggies or grilling Mother’s Atlantic Salmon.
Sunflower Oil
Mother’s Sunflower Oil is perfect for roasting or deep-frying. We love using sunflower oil when roasting potatoes because we can crank up the heat to get a perfect crisp on the potatoes. It can also work really well when roasting things such as Yorkshire pudding and even stir- frying vegetables.

It’s Time
Sumo Citrus Season
Despite what some may think, Sumo Citrus is not an orange. What it is, however, is one of the most popular citrus varietals that some people wait all year for…because yes, this fruit is that good. An oversized mandarin originally from Japan, Sumo Citrus is the perfect healthy snack. It is incredibly sweet and easy-to-peel as well as enormous in size with a unique “top knot.” It doesn’t get better than this — except it does because Sumo Citrus is also seedless! Can you see why this fruit has such a big following?
Originally cultivated in Japan in the 1970s by a grower who set out to develop the ultimate citrus experience, it has been prized since the beginning. Created from Satsuma, Orange, and Mandarin, Sumo Citrus is generally known as the shiranui variety in Japan and was nicknamed the “dekopon” in reference to its uneven skin and its distinctive Top Knot. Not every dekopon is a Sumo Citrus however, only those meeting the enormously delicious size and taste standards. In 1998, seedlings were first imported to the US, but
they were not available to the public until 2011 due to being very challenging to grow. These days, there are dedicated farmers in California who grow this delicious fruit.
After all this, you may be thinking that it’s time to try Sumo Citrus! Well, this citrus variety is only available for a few months a year, generally starting in January or February. When you see it in store, we recommend picking some up. Due to its popularity, it frequently sells out!

Up Your Water Intake
Why You Should Be Hydrating Every Day
When it comes to health, drinking the daily right amount of water is important. Water is essential and plays an integral role in many of our body functions: it delivers nutrients to cells, eliminates waste, regulates body temperature, and protects our joints and organs. Additionally, it can prevent dehydration. Dehydration itself can have many negative effects on the body so it’s important to make sure you are not just drinking water, but properly hydrating. If you’re now wondering how much water is the right amount to consume on a daily basis, it depends! Age, sex, pregnancy status and more play into how much water each individual should consume. Moreover, according to the CDC’s article “Water and Healthier Drinks,” if you are
in a warmer climate, engaging in higher levels of physical activity, or ill with a fever, diarrhea, or vomit, your body will need more water.
While there are many different brands of water, we hope that this year you try the Mother’s brand, which offers two varieties – Mother’s Alkaline Water and Mother’s Mountain Spring Water. Mother’s locally sourced and purified 9.5 pH Alkaline Water provides superior hydration. It is pH balanced with added electrolytes. As for Mother’s Mountain Spring Water, it provides the purest and freshest taste you can find. Take either water option to the next level with healthy add-ins such as sliced cucumber or lemon wedges to amplify the flavor.
