5 Habits to Live More Sustainably
In our changing world, it’s important we are all doing what we can to be better stewards to our planet and the climate. Thankfully, there are many simple ways to live more consciously and contribute to a happier and healthier ecosystem. Here are five simple habits anyone can adopt to live more sustainably in 2023:
1. Use Durable Products
Focus on using products that are multi-use or will last for a long time, such as aluminum water bottles, fabric shopping bags and metal straws. Be vigilant when shopping and select products that don’t require extra packaging.
2. Buy Regenerative Organic Certified® Goods
Regenerative Organic Certified® is a revolutionary new certification for food, textiles and personal care products that represents the highest standard in the world for organic agriculture, with stringent requirements for soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. Bonterra Organic Estates is proud to be a Regenerative Organic Certified® winery and launch our new Regenerative Organic Certified® wines, The Estate Collection, which is emblematic of our company’s mission to Cultivate The Future.
3. Consider Composting
Composting supports the environment by improving soil health, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, recycling nutrients, and mitigating the impact of droughts. Home composts can be made with a 5-gallon bucket in a backyard, made with scraps of fruits, vegetables and other organic matter. If home composting doesn’t align with your living situation, many municipalities have resources to drop off compost to be processed.
4. Eat More Plants
Meat consumption is linked to an annual carbon dioxide equivalent of 1.1 tons (about 60% of all greenhouse gasses) on a global average. Adding more plant-based foods to your diet can help reduce impact on the environment and animals.
5. Choose Nature-Friendly
Seek out products that are natural and use eco-friendly ingredients, including products that support biodiversity and protect natural habitats and resources. Proof of these claims should be verified by reputable sources and require third-party accreditation, like becoming Certified B Corporation or Certified Climate Neutral company – and Bonterra Organic Estates is both.
